You wanna live in the ZIP?

How did I miss the chatter on this one? No doubt it will be absolutely horrible but that does not mean I won't TIVO it just to see. No character on this show will ever live up to the coolness that was Dylan McKay, but it might be worth a chuckle. I recognized a couple of the actors in this promo, one was the slutty HS chick from Nip/Tuck and another was a journalist on Dirt. And of course John Stamos' wife from Full House! I think the only way to go with this series is crazy cameos from original cast members, like Kelly Taylor playing the guidance counselor.  Last time I checked, most of their schedules were clear!

The Best Show on Televison will live on!!!

Go Dillon Panthers!

This is the best TV related news I have heard in a long, long time...and thankfully we are loyal DirecTV subscribers.  I wonder how the story will go now though.  Riggins and Smash are both graduating and are two main characters.  Hmm...I still can't wait.  As long as the Coach's Cougar wife is still on the scene, it's all good!

Thanks to Jeff for the tip.  Would that be a "hat tip"?  I still don't know some of the blogging lingo!

Boston Sports Legend will soon sign off

Bob Lobel is leaving WBZ TV in Boston, it is a sad day in the Boston Sports Media World.  Steve Buckley wrote a great piece on Lobel in today's Boston Herald.  He does an excellent job of breaking down why the old fashioned "sports guy" for the local news isn't as relevant anymore.  With all the Sportscenters, Sportdesks, 24 hour sports stations, etc...the 5 minute sports segment of the evening news just isn't as important anymore.

I grew up with Lobel keeping me in the loop on Boston sports.  When I first got into sports around 2nd or 3rd grade, I looked forward to the sports every night at about 6:25, he came on right after the weather and in 5 minutes, Lobel told me everything I needed to know about the Sox, Pats, Celtics and all my favorite players like Bird, Rice, Grogan, etc.  And as I got older and stayed up for the 11 o'clock news, the five minutes towards the bottom of the hour were great for highlights of all the games I wanted to know about.  And Lobel did it in fine fashion.  It's sad really, the evening news is all so sensationalized now.  Kristin won't even watch it.  During the winter, the broadcast will start with a weather alert, and just in case you missed it, not to worry, five minutes into the broadcast the weather guy will come on again telling you all about the potential snow storm six days from now!  Fortunately for weather guys, their importance has not suffered from the Weather Channel as much as the sports dudes has from all the sports networks.  Anyway, sprinkle in a few reports on how f'd up the world is and all that weather, and it leaves about 2 minutes for the sports, and you already know what happened because you'd rather flip to ESPN or NESN to find out about the game rather then hear about the insane guy that put his kid in a microwave while you wait for the sports segment.

Lobel is a legend and in my opinion, his name is as recognizable in Boston as all the sports legends that actually played the game.  He will be missed.  We can only hope he finds some time to treat Boston sports fans to hearing his thoughts on the sports radio dial, which has grown leaps and bounds while the newscasts have suffered.

Thanks Bob, WBZ will never be the same.  Geez, first Sarah Underwood and now this.

UPDATE:  Another great article on Lobel by Jackie MacMullan of the Globe, who I also heard got the boot due to budget cuts by her employer.

Go shorty...

...it's your birthday, we're gonna party like it's your birthday!

Woo hoo...Friday Night Lights might be saved!

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, CAN'T CANCEL FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!!!

By the way, is Tim Riggins the coolest high school television character since Dylan McKay?

Ever wonder why HDTV's cost so freakin much?

Check out the insides!!!

By the way, as stressful as the whole ordeal was with my TV going on the fritz, I really enjoyed the time chatting with the repair guy about all the changes in televisions over the years.  The guy was probably in his late 40's or early 50's and he has literally been around television repair his entire life, since his father started the company he now runs.  It was very interesting.  Some of the horror stories he shared were fascinating.  Plus he was a Jeep guy so we had that in common too.

In the end the TV had a bad "S/C Board" which is one of the green boards on the left as you look at the picture, list price for that is about $380.  Fortunately it was warrantied.  TV is back to normal now, and the "rental" will be returned to the Big Box store today.

My TV gave birth!!!

A bouncing baby LG 20 Inch LCD HDTV!  Arrived at our home this afternoon about noon.  But chances are, we'll give it up soon and send it back.  Long story short, my 3 month old Panasonic is on the fritz and won't display a picture.  The only sign of life is the LED light blinking 7 times, that phrase alone gets several hits on Google, so I am not the first person to experience the pain.  The earliest the manufacturer can send a repair person out is Tuesday, too long to wait considering the end of College Bowl season and the 1st round of the NFL playoffs are this weekend.

Not to mention a 2 1/2 year old asking "you gonna fix the tubie?"

So this little beauty was purchased as a rental and should be returned to the big box store once the big daddy is repaired and working properly.  Unless the lure of a kitchen TV is too enticing...

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts...

...CAN'T LOSE!

Go Dillon Panthers!

My Ending to the Sopranos

Well, clearly David Chase was leaving the viewers a chance to decide the fate of the Soprano Family

What happened when Meadow walked into the restaurant?  Here's my take:

The dude that walked into the bathroom as the suspense was building was in deed the Hit Man.  However, he was a bit nervous so he had to relieve himself prior to whacking Tony.  Since it would clearly be the biggest hit of his life.  Thankfully for the Sopranos, that plate of onion rings (the best in the state) arrived just in time.  As they were chowing on them and Meadow entered, AJ, chokes on an onion ring!  This causes a big commotion around the table, Tony gets up to save his only son once again by giving him the Heimlich.  The restaurant manager, following protocol for choking victims, calls 911 and paramedics and police arrive within minutes.  All this happening as the Hit Man exits the bathroom with his hand inside his coat pocket ready to pull the trigger on the Head of the Family...but he is foiled.  AJ, in dramatic but loserly fashion, saves the day, for now.

Fade to black!

Friday Night Lights Again

There is talk again that Friday Night Lights will be cancelled due to poor ratings.  I just don't get it, this is easily one of the best shows on television.  Glad that someone agrees with me.

This article touches on what makes the show great.  I have commented to Kristin while watching the show how great I thought they did with camera angles, and cutaways from scenes, etc.  I usually don't notice that type of stuff.  Usually I just focus on storylines, etc.  But I just think the production of this show is phenomenal, and the majority of the actors are great too.  When the show first came out and I mentioned watching it to some friends, I got my balls busted.   They busted on me because their perception of the show (without watching an episode mind you) was that it was like the O.C. but on the football field, a drama filled with hokey high school storylines.  Couldn't be farther from the truth, I have actually learned some valuable lessons from this show.  It is a real eye opener about what small towns in Texas are all about.  But you don't need to be a Texan to appreciate and learn from some of the characters on the show.  Okay, I am rambling and I have rambled about this before...watch the show, give it a shot, bump up the ratings, don't let it be cancelled.

I think you can watch the old episodes on NBC.com
