Who would have thunk...
...I'd be so fired up about the purchase of a new garage door. But I guess home ownership does that to you. A month or so ago, I had my heart set on buying a Plasma Television, and was subsequently driving my wife crazy with my constant price tracking, researching, etc. Then when we didn't get as big of a tax refund as I dreamed of(keep in mind, we only bought our house in September so I guess we didn't get that big lottery payout other homeowners have been telling us about for years), I woke up and smelled the home ownership kool aid and decided I needed to check my priorities.
Although we have a never ending list of things to do on the home improvement list, we decided replacing our 1950's wooden garage door would jump to #1 on the list. One reason being the combination of the old wooden door and the chain driven opener made it feel like a minor earthquake anytime we opened it. In addition, since there was absolutely no insulation in those old fashioned doors, the cold air basically had a free path into the garage, which isn't so bad except for the fact that the living space above the garage will be home to our new bundle of joy in a few weeks, making the nursery the coldest room in the house. So, we figured a new, lighter and insulated door with a belt driven opener would be a nice upgrade.
So here is what our garage looked like this morning:
And here is what the new and improved garage looks like as I type:
So not only is it quieter and more energy efficient, but I think it adds a bit of curb appeal as well. Hands down, we have the nicest garage door on the street!
The plasma can wait...I am very happy with this purchase!
Nice door. I like that stone wall too.
You are doing better than I in the door department... our front storm door is hanging from the frame by one screw. This week's new surprise. Now where's that homeowner-lottery payout I've heard about? eeeeeeeeeeh

Big time curb appeal improvement in addition to helping a certain someone check off one more item on her "climate crisis prevention list"!
